A recent survey found that more than half (63.3%) of physicians say they rarely or never discuss increasing seafood consumption with their patients, even though recent USDA/HHS guidelines recommend seafood for its health benefits. The survey also found that the majority of physicians (86.3%) stated that they, and their patients, would benefit from having tools that could provide them with information about seafood and tips for making appropriate diet modifications.i
Knowing this, four leading physicians gathered together to host a multidisciplinary round table, which led to the development of an easy-to-use discussion guide for both patients and their physicians.
With the health benefits of seafood spanning general health, pregnancy, heart health and everything in between, the panel featured a leading OB-GYN, General Practitioner, Cardiologist and Pediatrician. They discussed their patients’ concerns and developed the Get Real About Seafood Discussion Guide to help patients talk with their physicians about eating more seafood.
